How To Stay Social – #coffeetalkmonday

Happy #coffeetalkmonday! Coffee talk Monday is the typical Monday morning when you’re still wishing it was the weekend and hoping that chugging coffee will help ease the pain of weekday reality.

Today’s topic is all about staying social when all you want to do is stay home and in your comfort zone. This topic is important for winter especially because when it gets dark at 5pm, we now have an automatic excuse to stay home because like isn’t it almost bed time? Ok, maybe I’m the only one who uses that excuse.

Staying SOCIAL does not necessarily mean being with PEOPLE. That’s the first thing you have to realize.

We naturally get into patterns without even realizing it and breaking the patterns can be difficult. Everyone knows the pattern of not going to the gym leads to paying for a Planet Fitness membership for 2 years for no reason at all.

As introverts, it is easy for us to get in the pattern of staying home and in our comfort zone. Here are some tips and tricks to break that habit.

1. Plan 1 thing to do a night

Have SOMETHING to do to keep you busy and hold yourself accountable. This could be going grocery shopping, going for a walk, window shopping, going to the library and going to the gym are just a few ideas.

2. Start a TV series with a friend

Every week alternate places to watch the series. One week have your friend over and the next week go to her/his house. This will get you into a pattern of holding yourself accountable for that particular night while not always watching Netflix alone. Eventually start to include other people in your Netflix night. When you add one person to the mix at a time, you’ll be more comfortable building up to a large group of people while still being comfy, curled up on the couch. You don’t have to go out to have fun…we all know that! Make the most of your Netflix night and bring a dish to your friends house. It will give you something to do and each week it will be fun to try new foods even from the comfort of your own home.

3. Go somewhere new

Always go to the same coffee shop? Always get lunch at the same place? Go somewhere NEW. This ties back to the “routines” I was talking about earlier. Going somewhere new is not only exciting but you could potentially meet someone new there. Gain a friend at a coffee shop or take in different sights at a local lunch spot. Getting yourself out there is the first step so you might as well spice it up and try something new…even if it’s for a few minutes!

Working out, eating healthy and no change. Worst thing ever. Quick read.

You’ve been there, right? You dedicated your time and money into getting “fit”  but the only things that actually fits are your sweatpants.  Been there done that.
