When I’m hungry, I’m HUNGRY. That has always been the leading factor of why I never was into cooking. Most meal preparation consume your time and energy before you can even sit down to feast your face off. Like, no. I’m not about that life. If I want it…I want it now.
My best friend is the opposite of me when it comes to the kitchen. She spends what seems like hours in the kitchen preparing meals and experimenting with recipes. We always joke with each other when we say “whats for dinner tonight” and her response is something gourmet and my response is cereal.
Being the natural chef that she is, she was eager to try out a meal delivery service call HelloFresh. Once she signed up, she was able to give (3) free meals to a friend. To be completely honest, I brushed off the initial offer because I thought i would hate the meals because I’m a picky eater. When she pushed the second time, yo’ girl took the offer because FREE FOOD HELLO.
I jumped on the website, entered the code and picked the vegetarian option because I am trying to be nicer to my aging bod. Once I realized that I wasn’t able to pick different meals and didn’t love the meals that were on the menu, sheer panic set in.
Homegirl picked up that phone and within a minute I was talking to a person from HelloFresh. It was like she was waiting for my call. I expressed my concern and within a snap she converted me over to the regular meal plan and let me pick my (3) meals. Once my meals were picked I asked the most important question. “When do I have to cancel so I wont be charged for anything”? The representative told me the date and even sent me an email with instructions. I was never charged a penny.
The meals came on Monday and inside the box were (3) labeled brown paper bags and the meats were in ice on the bottom of the box. My first glance to the brown paper bags brought back memories of school lunches and I wasn’t sure if I loved it.
As I opened the first meal, I realized the brown paper bag is the biggest lifesaver of all. The convenience of having the bag in front of you to throw your trash in made cooking so much cleaner and easier. A meal card with instructions, pictures, macros, ingredients and what wine to pair the meal with was so incredibly helpful.
Other than googling how to cut an onion then facetiming my best friend to ask her how to cut parsley, I was able to cook the entire meal by myself. The satisfaction of being able to cook a meal that didn’t taste like death was a great feeling. It made me feel like cereal can now be option #2 and not option #1.
I thought I was going to hate it. I LOVED it.
I thought I was getting free food and that’s it but I was actually taught how to cook by a HelloFresh recipe card.
Cooking can be scary but having pictures with each step makes it easier.
Would I purchase a weeks worth of meals? Absolutely.
